A busy multi-tenant building located on the outskirts of Valletta, Malta, needed to control access between the site’s many tenants while streamlining onboarding for new employees. Built on a 2,585 square meter plot, the building comprises four floors with offices, a gym, coffee bar, games room, a kitchen, and a roof terrace taking up the top levels and warehouses on the ground floor. Additionally, there are two basement parking levels.
With approximately 400 employees on-site and multiple spaces requiring different levels of access, controlling the movement of employees was a challenge for APCO, who was selected as the security integrator for the project. Around 60 doors in the 5,000+ square meter building needed to be monitored and controlled, including restricted areas such as communication and server room doors where only authorized, qualified personnel could access.
Additionally, the client relied on a legacy access control system that had become increasingly difficult to manage, requiring them to switch between multiple unintuitive dashboards. The system was also poorly integrated with existing systems, and even some devices were incapable of integrating. These issues hindered day-to-day operations, preventing a proactive approach to the building and occupant security and overall business management.
VIGIL CORE provides comprehensive access control for the 60 doors located in the building. Cardholder locations can be monitored across the system in real time, and role-based access can be set based on an employee’s user permissions, ensuring that only authorized personnel can access restricted areas. This also allows for different tenants to have access to their workspace and the communal areas, without compromising the security of the other offices and warehouse spaces.
Operators can access event logs (such as entry/exit), update user permissions, print and issue new cards, monitor visitors, and set scheduling, reporting and other actions via an intuitive interface and also through the PACOM VIGIL CORE Manager app.
